Meet our Director

(The Reverend) Father Frank Michael Souza, Associate Pastor and Headmaster of Schools, OSFoc, M.Div, MAPT

Father Frank Souza serves as our Associate Pastor and Headmaster for Schools at Saint Miriam. He is also a professed Franciscan.

Father was born and raised in South Philadelphia, and having felt the call to priesthood and Franciscan spirituality from a very young age, Father Frank was called to pursue seminary studies in Philadelphia and Minnesota as well as periods of discernment with religious communities.

During these formative years, Father studied theology; taught in various schools and parish communities and served as a youth minister, teacher, catechist, and in administration as Director of Religious Education and Faith Formation in the United States Virgin Islands, Milwaukee, Philadelphia and New York. Father holds a Master’s degree in Divinity and Pastoral Theology from Ave Maria Theological and St. Joseph’s College. He also has degrees from Neumann University and attended St. Paul Seminary and St. Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father Frank finds his greatest strengths in pastoral ministry when he is socially, intellectually, and spiritually involved – sharing these aspects of his outgoing personality with others. His hobbies include: going to the shore, traveling, reading, socializing and visiting with family and friends. Father is an avid reader and finds reading books on spirituality, especially our shared Franciscan spirituality, very enjoyable, uplifting and practical for everyday life.

Celebrating the sacraments as a priest, and being a professed Franciscan, while supporting others, especially our youngest, in education and faith formation, brings out his passion for life – Jesus Christ- alive in a multiplicity of inclusiveness that leads so many back home to the church.

Welcome! Thanks for your interest in Saint Miriam School! I am excited to be serving the students, parents, staff and community associated with the Saint Miriam Parish & Friary and Saint Miriam School.

Saint Miriam School is a ministry of the Old Catholic Community of Saint Miriam Parish in Flourtown. We are a preschool and kindergarten offering a variety of classes for children ages 12months through young 7 years. We provide a structured curriculum beginning at age 2, with specials in Music & Movement, Language, Science & Math, and Service. We provide an intimate teacher to student ratio, promote active parent involvement, and provide faith formation opportunities!

Our vision is to foster wholeness, excitement, hope, and hospitality in a faith-enriched, child-centered learning environment. As educators, we strive to guide each child to develop to his/her greatest potential.  Our program is committed to aid in the growth and development of the whole child by way of individual and group interaction. Our job is to determine where your child is on the continuum and then to design age appropriate learning experiences to stimulate growth. We recognize that all of these areas are important to the future success in learning and we want to give your child a positive start to his or her education.

Our education philosophy is that children learn best through play, while being inspired by nature on our nature playground and new S.T.E.A.M.M. classroom and advanced technologies! We are blessed to be able to utilize our entire 12-acre campus during our school day! And our outdoor playgrounds create opportunities for creative and imaginative play.

Our staff is well-tenured and puts the needs of your child first each and every day. All teachers have their Early Childhood Education Credentials, at least an associate degree in Early Childhood Education or a bachelor’s degree in Elementary or Early Childhood Education or related discipline. They are skilled at developing age appropriate activities that are engaging as well as educational.

From flexible days and hours to our S.T.E.A.M.M. programs to our safety protocols, we have designed a program that is unique to the area and will build excitement for future education in every child!

I invite you to take a tour and discover for yourself the ‘hidden gem’ in Flourtown!
